Best VPN Deals in 2026: How to Judge Them (and Which Take Bitcoin)

Short version: VPN discounts are huge on paper and misleading in practice. The headline price is a multi-year intro rate; the renewal price is what you'll actually live with. If you also want to pay in bitcoin, your shortlist shrinks. Here's how to compare deals without getting burned, and which providers we've already reviewed.

Step 1: Ignore the headline, find the renewal price

Almost every large VPN advertises a low monthly rate that requires a 1–3 year commitment, then renews at a higher price. Before you buy, find three numbers on the checkout page or terms:

  • Intro price per month and how long it lasts

  • Total charged today (you may be paying 24 or 36 months upfront)

  • Renewal price and whether it auto-renews

A deal that is cheaper per month but costs more cash today and renews at a high rate isn't automatically the better deal. Divide the total by the months you'll actually use it.

Step 2: Check the refund window, especially if you pay in crypto

Most major VPNs advertise a money-back guarantee, commonly 30 days. Read how refunds are issued for crypto payments before you pay. Some providers refund to the original payment method; for bitcoin, ask in advance whether refunds come back as BTC or as another form, because a refund calculated in dollars and returned in bitcoin can differ from what you sent. When in doubt, ask support first and screenshot the answer.

Step 3: Decide whether you need bitcoin payment

Paying with bitcoin doesn't make you anonymous. It removes a card number from the transaction, which is useful if you want to keep a subscription off your card statement. Your IP address, email and account details still exist. If privacy from the provider matters, read the provider's no-logs policy and independent audit reports, not just its payment page.

The shortlist we've reviewed

We've published full reviews of these providers. The payment details below come from the providers' own pages and our past reviews; check the checkout for the current list.

  • NordVPN. A mainstream pick with a long track record and a crypto payment option at checkout. Strong for streaming and general use. See our NordVPN review and get the current NordVPN offer [INSERT AFFILIATE LINK].

  • ExpressVPN. Premium-priced, with a polished app and a crypto payment option. See our ExpressVPN review and get the current ExpressVPN offer [INSERT AFFILIATE LINK].

  • Surfshark. Often the cheapest of the big three over multi-year plans, and allows unlimited devices. See our Surfshark review.

  • Proton VPN. Privacy-focused, from the company behind Proton Mail, with a free tier. See our Proton VPN review.

  • Mullvad. Built for privacy: no email required to sign up and it accepts bitcoin. See our Mullvad review.

If bitcoin payment is a hard requirement, start with Mullvad and Proton, then confirm NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark at checkout. Our pay-for-a-VPN-with-bitcoin guide walks through each checkout.

What to watch for with Black Friday VPN deals

Black Friday is the most common time for VPN discounts, and deal sites will publish roundups. We haven't seen verified 2026 promotions yet, so we won't quote any. When they appear:

  1. Check the date and the plan length. A "70% off" label on a 36-month plan isn't comparable to a 12-month price.

  2. Go to the provider directly. Fake coupon sites and copycat pages exist; type the address yourself.

  3. Don't stack on a bad plan. A deal on a provider that doesn't fit your needs is a waste.

  4. Save the receipt. You'll need it for refunds and, if you deduct it as a business expense, for your records.

When a VPN isn't the answer

A VPN hides your traffic from your internet provider and changes the IP address websites see. It does not protect you from phishing, does not secure your wallet, and does not make a risky exchange safe. For bitcoin security, the highest-value step is a hardware wallet with the seed phrase backed up offline. If you need one, see Ledger or Trezor, and buy only from the official store.

The BitDeals take

Don't buy a VPN on headline discount alone. Compare renewal price, total upfront cost and refund terms, and confirm the payment method at checkout. If bitcoin matters to you, Mullvad and Proton are the safest starting points; the bigger brands may also work, but verify before you pay.
